The Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) has officially resumed it’s operations after two months observing a lockdown a measure that was aimed at fighting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the Key issues on their agenda is restoring hope for the displaced people in the Rwenzori Region and upping their campaign strategy a head of the 2021 general election.
While addressing the media at the party headquarters, Patrick Oboi Amuriat,the party president issued a week ultimatum to the Electoral Commission demanding a revised 2021 elections roadmap.
“The FDC has started a phase reopening of our offices ,the headquarters is fully open and functional. We have instructed all our regional district offices to reopen. We want to guide our regional and district offices to resasitate the party position across the country,” he said.
Amuriat said electrol body should issue a new road map for campgains that details the exact dates the country will go to polls.
“We would like to send a warning to Byabakama ,the chairperson Electoral Commission whose mandate, it is to organise free ,fair and credible election to stop hiding under the lockdown measures to make uncoordinated statements,” said Amuriat.
Amuriat added that Party leadership will soon meet and decide on the next course of action but this will be according to the 2019 Electoral Commission roadmap, nomination of district/city special Interest Group committees.
He stressed that the country should not be held into speculation on when or whether the 2021 elections will be held.
Amuriat also officially launched an appeal called “Restoring hope and lives” to aid the People of Kasese who are currently living in desperate conditions in camps.
This National effort will be managed by the party National Task Force headed by Roland Kaginda Mugume, the Party Deputy Chairman and deputised by William Nzoghu among others.
“We are encouraged by those who have already responded to our appeal including the People’s Government and wish to thank individuals and groups for that goodwill gesture,” Amuriat said.
He asked Ugandans to continue contributing relief items such as food, clothing, blankets, finance which will be delivered to the affected people.
He noted that the items can be delivered immediately to the FDC headquarters and it’s task force will also be making written appeals.
Amuriat said the first consignment of support will be reaching the victims of this natural catastrophe before the end of this week.
