Leader of Famous Bra Demonstration in Kampala Barbara Allimadi Is Dead

RIP Barbara Allimadi

Barbara Allimadi who is famously known for the Kampala Bra demonstration in 2012 has been found dead in her home.

“Family and friends,

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our sister Barbara Allimadi,” reads a message from Milton Allimadi a close relative who posted on Facebook.

He added that; “Barbara was a much-loved sister, aunty and cousin. She was also an activist, a champion of justice and democracy in Uganda. She will be greatly missed.

“The family ask that the public respect our privacy as we mourn our beloved sister.

“The family will provide more information in the near future.”

Barbara Allimadi has been the International Affairs Secretary at the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).

She has also been a human rights activist.

Barbara Allimadi worked towards empowering social change throughout Uganda in areas of community organizing, movement building and non-violence through her project, New Uganda Training and Organizing Working Group.

Barbara was also a recipient of a flow fund, which allowed her to reach out to women and youth to build a true, grassroots, bottom-up structure working towards collaborative organization.

The project prepares the individuals to identify social injustice and develop plans leading to great potential to achieve common goals.
