President Museveni, Kagame To Meet Today At Katuna Border

1 Mins read

President Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame of Uganda and Rwanda respectively are set to meet today at the Katuna border.

The meeting is a follow up to the Luanda agreement they signed in Angola organized by President João Lourenço  to resolve the conflicts that have lasted for close to a year now.

Preparations have in the past week been in high gear for the function where the media from both countries was not allowed to attend.

The conflicts are hinged on cross accusations between the two countries. Rwanda, among many things, accuses Uganda of aiding rebel groups against their government and illegally arresting her citizens. Uganda, on the other hand, accuses Rwanda of economic sabotage.

The Kagame meeting will also be attended by Presidents João Lourenço of Angola and Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo, who are playing the role of mediation.

Earlier this week, Uganda handed off 13 Rwandans who had been detained in prisons here. Kigali, on the other hand, released 20 Ugandans.

Museveni and Kagame will have a one-on-one meeting and come up with a way forward.

The main focus of today’s meeting is said to be the resumption of cross-border activities, including the movement of persons and goods.

“The proceedings at the summit at Katuna border will be covered by the respective Presidential Press Units from the four countries and shared. Please note that the presser at the close of the ceremony will be relayed live on UBC TV. We shall share with you the links at the start of the presser,” said Linda Nabusayi, the Presidential Press Secretary.

Presidents João Lourenço of Angola and Felix Tshisekedi from DR Congo, are also expected to attend the meeting at Katuna today.
