The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has unveiled the multi billion shilling water treatment plant which is under construction in Katosi Mukono district.
According to corporation, this is the biggest water plant in Uganda and one of the biggest in Africa. NWSC Board member chairperson, Christopher Ebal said after the completion of the first phase next year, the city will end it’s water shortage problem.
“This is the state of the project which is going to give us over 160 million litres of water per day and once it starts running by the of this year or early next year, the issues of water shortage in Kampala will be solved,” he said.
He further added: “at this level we also look at the quality of work and we are happy with it, we also look at the cost and so far the cost is within acceptable limits, we also look at the time frame.”
Eng Johnson Amayo, the deputy managing director technical services said :”The total cost is 362 million Euros,phases one is 222 million and phase 372 million Euros,” he said.
He noted that the government contribution towards the project is 34 million Euros.
