NRM Delegate Dies After Being Knocked by Boda Boda In Nakawa

1 Mins read

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has described the death of Mary Lokel as a big ‘robbery’ to the Party and called on boda-boda cyclists across the country to desist from reckless riding and have respect for human lives on the roads.

This is contained in the message delivered by the Secretary General Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba to the bereaved family and the mourners.

Lokel was knocked down by a speeding boda-boda cyclist in Nakawa on her way from Namboole on January 25 and later passed on from Nsambya Hospital after 3 days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

She was among the delegates who attended the 2nd meeting of the 3rd National Conference.

“The NRM National leadership learnt with deep sorrow the passing on of the late Mrs. Mary Lokel. The late is reported to have been knocked down by a speeding boda-boda after attending the NRM 2nd meeting of the 3rd National Conference of the National Resistance Movement on 25th January 2020 at Namboole. To the Party, this is a big robbery of our staunch supporter” reads part of the statement.

She added, “The Party took all necessary steps to save her life while in Nsambya Hospital but all in vain. We mourn in deep pain for the demise of our supporter and leader”.

Lokel has been the Finance Secretary for the NRM District Women League in Kabong.

The Secretary General has also warned boda-boda cyclists to ride responsibly and respect other road users.

The Party met all the hospital bills and all the *A-Plus* burial related expenses including transporting the body from Kampala to Kabong.

The deceased has this Monday afternoon been laid to rest at Lopedo Road Village, Kapilan Bar Parish in Kabong district.
