Andrew Angume, the Officer in Charge of Operations at Kasangati Police Division was accidentally hit by teargas canister during the fracas that ensued between the supporters of People Power Movement and the security personnel.

The incident took place on Monday in Kasangati Town.

Bob Wine and his pressure group were supposed to officially launch their nationwide consultation meetings beginning with Kyadondo in preparation for 2021 general elections.

Unfortunately, the meeting did not take place as planned by the pressure group due to a number of reasons that were given by police.

The force accused the pressure group for failure to meet some of the requirements in regards to the Public Order Management Act and the meeting could not go on.

However, after the arrest of Bobi Wine and other People Power leaders, chaos broke up between the supporters of the pressure group and police.

The actions of People Power supporters forced the security forces to fire bullets and teargas to disperse the rowdy supporters who tried to rescue the legislator but their efforts were fruitless.

During the scuffle Kasangati OC Angume was hit by a teargas canister fired by his colleague targeting the protesters.

The deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan, Police Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident noting that the officer was injured.

Owoyesigyire said the force has started investigations into the matter to establish the facts behind the incident.

He however said the officer is currently receiving medical assistance at a nearby health centre which was not disclosed.
