Gen Katumba Wamala Advises Local Companies to Always be Ready to Embrace Projects

The state minister for works Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has said that local companies must continue to ready themselves for muli billion joint regional infrastructure projects such as the standard gauge railway.

He made the remarks while launching the new product from Hima cement on Monday.

Gen. Katumba cited the planned 1,724-kilometre standard gauge railway line whose $12.8 billion (Shs. 44 trillion) funding remains in the pipeline.

He said despite securing financing of the Eastern line for the standard Gauge Railway local manufacturers should continue to expect business for now.

“Very soon we are going to start standard gauge railways and this is going to be a huge consumer of the products and I am sure you will definitely meet the standard that is required since you met the stadndard of Jinja bridge. I don’t think you will fail to meet the stand for the standard gauge railway,” he said.

He assured the local campanies for the Ministry’s commitment towards working with them on the the same project.

He however cautioned on the quality of construction materials and enlighten government heavey spending on the sector nearly 4.8 billion shillings allocated infrastructure in the financial development 2019/2020.

“Construction materials are getting extremely difficult to come nearby and the constructions of roads are becoming very expensive so Hima cement is coming up with such a wonderful plan accoding to the reading and information provided which will help us to reduce the costs making the roads and maintaining them hence reducing on national expenditure,” he said.
