I am Tired of Being Sued Over Academic Papers, MP Sematimba Speaks Out

1 Mins read

Busiro South of parliament Peter Sematimba is one of the candidates sitting this year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examinations (UACE) from Kakoola High School in Luweero district.

Sematimba whose academic qualifications have been a subject of debate crossed from Busiro to Kakoola Luweero where he is secretly sitting his papers.

Speaking to Ug mirror, Sematimba explained the reasons as to why he went back to sit this year’s Advanced Level national exams instead of using his US academic credentials.

He elaborated that whereas he possesses genuine academic papers obtained from the United States of America, he is tired of being sued over papers all the time and this is why he decided to go back to earn the UACE that Ugandans understand.

“My papers were from America and I was certified by the National Council of Higher Education but I decided to go back and achieve this senior six certificate that many Ugandans understand. I spent a lot of money to defend myself in court,” he said.

Some of his classmates expressed their happiness for sitting with the Honorable member of parliament whose spoken English was proved to be good beyond reasonable doubt.

The headteacher of the school said that the school expects a lot from the legislator because he was well prepared by his teachers.

In June 2016, Justice Lydia Mugambe kicked Mr Semantimba out of Parliament over lack of the required academic credentials. Justice Mugambe in her ruling faulted the National Council of Higher Education (NICHE) for avoiding to independently verify the authenticity and validity of Mr Sematimba’s Diploma in Electrical and Computer Technology, said to have been obtained from the Pacific Coast Technical Institute based in the US.

However, on September 18, 2017, the Court Of Appeal nullified the High Court ruling and reinstated Sematimba as the elected legislator for Busiro South constituency.
