Early this morning, at about 8AM, a truck carrying concrete stones rammed into nine cars along Ntinda Kiwatule road after the driver failed to control it because of brake failure, leaving leaving one person dead and 8 others injured.

Police have now started investigations into the circumstances under which the truck rammed into the nine vehicles.

A Chinese made Sinotruk registration number UAX 495M rammed into traffic along the Najjeera- Ntinda road crashing nine vehicles and two motorcycles and according to the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyeisgyire, eight people were injured in the accident.

“One person identified as William Matovu, a boda boda rider has been confirmed dead after succumbing to injuries whereas eight people were injured in the accident,”Owoyesigyire said.

He noted that the accident involved a truck that was carrying building materials that rammed into eight vehicles including three taxis, a Toyota Wish, a Rav4, Premio, Platz, Mercedes Benz, Subaru and two motorcycles.

The police mouthpiece, however, said the driver of the truck that caused the accident took off after the accident, adding that a search for him has started to help them in investigations into the matter.

“We are looking for him. We may prefer driving recklessly causing death but that will depend if the car is inspected and they find no fault. If it was inspected and the problem is with the car , the charge will change,” Owoyesigyire said.

In April, three people died and over 10 others left nursing serious injuries after a runaway truck loaded with granite plowed through stationary cars at the Kira Road traffic lights.

The accident that happened at around 5pm saw a truck registration number UAA 497L fail to brake and plowed into seven vehicles at the Kira road traffic lights in front of Kira road police station.
