Makerere Guild President Julius Kateregga and the Guild Speaker Ezra Byakutangaza have been arrested and are detained at Wandegeya Police Station.

The pair were picked up from the university today morning after they had successfully gone to see Siperia Mollie, the female GRC who led yesterday’s strike against tuition increment.

The two according to a source within Police were arrested for inciting violence within the university and they have been arrested as a safety precaution to prevent further demonstrations within the University.

The arrested Guild President had no kind words for the administration and Police as he was being whisked away into the Police station. “If they want to arrest, let them arrest the entire student body but we shall not waver until our demands are made” Kateregga told said.

“Our demands are very clear, we seek the immediate reinstatement of Siperia Mollie from suspension, the immediate halting of the cumulative tuition increment, immediate de-gazetting of the ‘Council’ Students Guild Electoral Reforms and immediate improvement of sanitation in Halls Of Residence. If we don’t get that, we shall not stop,” Kateregga added.

The two join several other students that are still detained at Wandegeya Police station over the strike yesterday and today morning.
