The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged to partner with Parliament on civic education and continuous training of the Members and staff.

The new resident representative of the UNDP, Elsie Attafuah said that they will continue with their support to Parliament and especially to the soon to start Parliament radio.

Attafuah made these assurances while meeting the Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga on Friday, 06 September 2019.

“As UNDP, we are glad for this partnership with Parliament and we are looking forward to the launch of the Parliament Radio which will help with the civic education on democracy,” Attafuah said.

She commended the Speaker and Parliament for the achievements registered through the work of committees, on gender equality, the for persons living with albinism and the Cancer Run.

Kadaga welcomed Attafuah and requested her to establish training programmes for Members and Staff of Parliament.

“I look forward to the continuous training of Members of Parliament who have a high turnover every election period; and more grounded training for permanent staff who can guide the new Members,” Kadaga said.

Kadaga added that there was more work needed in educating the public on the roles of a Member of Parliament.

“The public needs to be sensitised on the work of Parliament and with time they will stop having unrealistic requests from the MPs,” she said.
