Democratic Party President Nobert Mao has said that the People Power movement led by Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kaygulanyi alias Bobi Wine has come to bring a transition in the opposition.
“In opposition also we want to make a transition from somebody else to somebody else and the DP bloc has been vocal about the need for that process to take place,” Mao said.
While addressing the media at the party weekly briefing yesterday, Mao said that there is a need for transition in opposition from one leader to another.
“The fact that People Power is an umbrella for all Ugandans, it is non negotiable that is the point and people who want to belong to it are many,” he said.
He noted that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) think that the opposition side is too disorganised and has no chance at leadership.
“We know that is why People Power has come in, to ensure that there is a transition in the opposition, NRM has failed to have any transition from Museveni to someone else,” he said.
He also added that the struggle to liberate Uganda is not a struggle for an individual but a struggle for all Ugandans.
“I am the president of Democratic Party number 6, and tomorrow there will be also transition from Nobert Mao to someone else. Must that be a matter of life and death?” he asked.
He also noted that the relationship between DP and People Power is unbreakable in regards to all news via social media indicating and carrying messages that there is misunderstanding between the two political organisations that was sparked off when DP Members appeared on Bobi Wine’s coordinators list last week.
Mao trashed all the claims indicating there is no misunderstanding between him and Bobi Wine.
He noted that DP is ready to work with anybody as long as they have the same agenda of dislodging the sitting government.
“I want to assure you. I am not angry at all, I had a long conversation with Hon Kyagulanyi and we are going to continue because our points are valid, we want to build People Power into a Special Purpose Vehicle, “he said.
Mao noted that the confusion in the opposition segment is created by the ruling party intended to divert the united force in the opposition.
“These are Museveni’s agents who want to create confusion,“ he said.
Mao also commented on the recently tabled electoral reforms, noting that the reforms will not deliver meaningful free and fair elections rather intended to entrench the sitting regime.
“They are merely aimed at entrenching the Museveni regime, they are about making the same thing favorable to Museveni,” he said.
