President Yoweri Museveni has assured the people of Greater Mubende area in Central Uganda that the government will help them to resolve rampant land disputes in their areas saying that what the landlords are currently doing in causing evictions of tenants is illegal.

“During the protracted armed people’s liberation struggle, most of the landlords run away. tThey came back because NRM brought peace. They didn’t do what we advised them not to; collecting excessive rent and not to evict people. But we can come in and resolve all those bad things,” he said.

The President was today speaking during the meeting of Greater Mubende leaders at St. Peter’s Technical School in Kyatelekera Sub-County in Mubende Municipality. The districts that form Greater Mubende include Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Kassanda, Mityana and Mubende.

President Museveni is currently on a countrywide tour to sensitise leaders on how to help their people to fight poverty through modern farming.

Regarding wealth and job creation, President Museveni pointed out that lack of prioritization and extravagance are some of the factors that impede development in Uganda.

“What is disturbing Ugandans are three things: sleeping all the time, lack of prioritization and extravagance by organising expensive parties,” he said.

He said that NRM has achieved 62% of its Manifesto. However, he added a big number of Ugandans still practice substance farming which, he said, still remains a big challenge for people to meet modern demands.

“People have remained in subsistence farming yet we are in the modern times that need money,” he added.

He emphasized the need for the people of Uganda to focus on enterprise selection adding that those with small land holdings, should concentrate on intensive farming like growing fruits, poultry and piggery activities, among others, to increase house hold incomes.

He also appealed to the people to desist from wetland destruction by cultivating in them but use their periphery for fish farming.

The President advised the people of Greater Mubende in particular to stop the practice of family property fragmentation through archaic inheritance rites. He advised that family members should instead form family companies where they get shares.

On development, President Museveni noted that the people of Mubende are witnesses of the building of the road network in the area and cited the Kakumiro – Kagadi road that is under construction.

He added that the Masindi – Kigumba and Kakumiro – Buhimba roads will be bituminised. On their part, Greater Mubende leaders, in their resolution that was read out by the NRM Chairperson of Mubende, Hon. Maj. Kakooza Joseph and seconded by all the NRM Chairpersons of Greater Mubende, endorsed President Museveni as the NRM sole candidate for 2021 elections.
