Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has finally accepted to hold talks with the suspended lectures in effort to end the staff strike that has entered third week.

In a meeting with Makerere University staff, Nawangwe said that he is ready for talks.

“I came here to affirm that we as management are committed to beginning a new chapter and that the dialogue to create total harmony, total mutual respect will continue so that our university can rise even higher,” said Nawangwe.

Nawangwe also appealed to the lectures s negotiations are going on.

“Let us return to work. Half of the university is working; another half is not working; that is not good for the parents and its not good for our children.”

Lectures however resolved not to return to lecture room until their grievances are resolved.

Suspended MUASA Chairperson Dr Deus Kamunyu welcomed the idea of negotiations.

Weeks ago, Chairperson Makerere University Staff Association, Dr Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu was suspended and ordered to hand over office of which he remained defiant.

On 21st January 2019, lecturers at the same institute laid down their tools as the semester began.
