Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon Francis Zaake has on Monday 21st January 2019 blasted Uganda Police for accepting to be used by people with selfish interest.

This followed the arrest of his own father, Mr. Emmy Ssembusi Butebi.

Mr Butebi was summoned to the police over allegations that he has been threatening a city tycoon Simon Kiyimba Freeman through sending mysterious messages.

According to the family members, among the people that Police apprehended are Ronald Kivumbi and Fred Kasaalu.

Legislator Francis Zaake through his social media Platforms accused police of being used by individuals with selfish motives.

Nobert Ochom Wamala, the region police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of those businessmen.

Meanwhile Uganda Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga said that Kiyimba filed a case at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli alleging that Mr Butebi has been using his associates to send him threatening messages and calls.

Fred Enanga further added Police Flying Squad tracked the source of the messages after Kiyimba reported the case to CID leading to the apprehension of two people.

Suspects who are under police custody are Saul Mayanja and Fred Kasaalu.

Enanga said that the others that have been summoned alongside Mr Butebi include Mr Daudi Malagala, the head of Mbwa clan, Mr Fred Nkuubi, Mr Godfrey Buwembo, Mr David Kateeka and Mr Ronald Kivumbi.

“We did not just light blow on these people. Our FSU team tracked the owners of the phones and they were arrested and they are currently under our custody. No one has immunity. Being summoned by police does not mean you have committed an offence, but you are suspected to have committed a crime,” Mr Enanga said.

Below is MP Zaake’s Statement on the Arrest of his people

On Friday, two businessmen in Mityana Municipality were arrested by the ex-commandant of flying squad SSP Kakonge Peter who also summoned many other traders within Mityana Municipality including my Father, Mr. Emmy Ssembusi Butebi to appear before him and record statements about the alleged threatening of violence against the person of John Kiyimba Fred alias Kiyimba Freeman.

We know it for a fact that these are business battles, and it’s not by surprise that some elements within Uganda Police are being used by one individual to fight his battles by suppressing the rights and freedoms of others but we are warning them to desist from such acts otherwise the law will shape them to order.

So far, we have contacted Police to ascertain the whereabouts of the arrested two but until now no pronouncement has been made about the matter.

The arrested are Mr. Mayanja Saul and Mr. Kasaalu Fred, we do task Police to immediately release the two because they are being detained illegally as per the dictates of the law stipulating the time within which suspects are to leave Police custody.

We demand that they be produced before the court of law rather than keeping them incommunicado.

We have already embarked on a legal process through our lawyers to bring justice to the persecuted businessmen.
