Muhoozi welcomes UPDF troops from Somalia

The CDF of UPDF, General David Muhoozi has on Friday 18th welcomed back 248 UPDF troops who were part of the second Uganda military training and mentoring team in Equatorial Guinea and 2400 troops of Uganda’s 23rd Battle group to Somalia.

The function was held at the UPDF peace and support operation and training centre in Nakaseke district

General Muhoozi applauded the troop for raising Uganda flag in the foreign mission after serving for a year.

He stated that the reasons for UPDF involvement in Foreign mission stems from Pan Africa spirit and the old adage that no man is an island.

“We are all human and are bound to meet both good and bad people. Bad people as terrorists bring suffering to humanity. We must support each other against such ills,” he explained.

“Other than being human which explains the contribution to the fight against evil that affect humanity. We are Africans with same Identity, same culture, same aspirations and same destiny irrespective of our nationalities,” he noted

He added that soldiers need to work together to promote the greater African interest.

He further stressed that Africans are in dire need of social economic transformation that can only be achieved in a peaceful environment.

“We are bound by one Identity in a troubled territory called Africa whose existence we must fight for so that we can continue to exist,” he said

The UPDF recently deployed its twenty sixth battle group to Somalia and the third military training and mentoring team to Equatorial Guinea. UPDF also deployed as United Nations guard unit in Somalia
