Kampala Lord mayor, Elias Lukwago said he will soon begin an exercise to screen and audit the manner in which KCCA employees were recruited.
“We want to see how to address the crisis in staff area and public service,” he explained
The Lord mayor was responding to the report by KCCA Public Accounts Committee which brought light to multiple cases of irregular recruitment of the employees at the authority.
The report points out that the authority has 1133 staff of whom 742 were irregularly employed.
“There were no adverts for positions, there was no application letters in the file, job descriptions we’re not provided.” he added
Lord Mayor also called upon the appointing authority to appoint a substantial KCCA director in the acting capacity.
However, KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju maintains that there are no irregularities in the employment process at KCCA.
“KCCA has been in place for seven years and eight months and the agency that does recruitment for the institution is public service,” he stated.
The Lord Mayor also raised concerns about the KCCA head of security; he wants him to be drawn from KCCA.
The Lord Mayor and Opposition Shadow Minister of Kampala, Betty Nambooze also unveiled some proposals for improving the city.
The two were critical of Kampala Minister, Betty Kamya who they claim has given herself more powers that she is not entitled to including the appointment of KCCA head.
