Joy filled people with disabilities in Nwoya district as they received 200 wheelchairs from their woman member of parliament, Adong Liliy over the weekend at the district headquarters.

After distributing the wheelchairs to people of disabilities, Adong revealed that the wheelchairs cost Shs90million.

She said that the wheelchairs were donated by friends in the Diaspora and the Bible church in Uganda.

She called upon government of Uganda to scale up programs for persons with disabilities especially at the subcounty level.

“I still urge the government to scale up programs for persons with disabilities because we have their representatives everywhere from the village to parliament and there are disabilities funds sent in the district,” she said

She further urged People with disabilities to always register for assistance whenever the opportunity surfaces.

“Actually, from this very distribution, I have realized that there are people who don’t care about their relatives with disabilities because we send out announcements several times and even, we send vehicles to go and pick them,” she said

33 year old David Okello who got paralyzed at the age of 3 joined his MP to ask government to take the lead in helping people with disabilities.
