Museveni calls on religious leaders to be exemplary in society

1 Mins read

President Yoweri Museveni has called on religious leaders in the country to live exemplary lives in society.

“As Christians, we cannot live by preaching the gospel only. Emulate Jesus who led a three dimensional mission of healing the sick, fed the needy and worked in his father’s carpentry workshop to teach the communities to improve on their social and economic activities through hard work,” he said.

The President was speaking during the commissioning ceremony of St. Andrew Cathedral Namukozi, Mityana Diocese in Mityana District.

Mr. Museveni, who kicked started the construction of the cathedral with support of Shs80million 3 years ago, congratulated Bishop Steven Samuel Kaziimba, the church administration and the entire community in Mityana Diocese for putting up a magnificent cathedral structure in a short time of three years.

The original Namukozi church that started 123 years ago was elevated to Diocesan level 41 years ago.

The commissioning ceremony also marked Bishop Kaziimba Mugalu’s ten years of evangelical mission.

He is the fourth Prelate since Mityana became a Diocese.

President Museveni, who contributed Shs400million out of the Shs2billion towards the completion of the Cathedral, used the occasion to warn against political indiscipline in society.

He noted that the poor state of roads in Mityana Town largely stems from the fact that the people there lack representation from their leaders who do not advance the needs of the area.

He, however, assured the people that the feeder road from Mityana Town to Kinoni Town in Gomba District is on the government programme for construction.

State Minister for Works, Gen. Katumba Wamala reported that 2.3 Kms out of 8 Kms of the Mityana Township road circuit have been done adding that remaining section, whose design work has been completed, will be handled as well.

Church of Uganda Archbishop, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, who conducted the commissioning ceremony, thanked President Museveni for supporting development programmes of Churches.

He also commended the people of Mityana District for turning up in large numbers for the ceremony.

Host Bishop, Rt. Rev. Steven Samuel Kaziimba revealed that the community accomplished the construction work in 3 years because of their full support and participation.
