CECAFA Women Challenge Cup: Uganda 1-4 Tanzania

Uganda National Women Team Crested Cranes is still on the title chase despite suffering a heavy 1-4 defeat against defending champions Tanzania at Stede De Kigali in Rwanda on Monday afternoon in their third game of CECAFA Women Challenge Cup.

Shadia Nankya scored a header from Zaina Namuleme’s direct free-kick from the right side in added time of the second half. Crested Cranes had already conceded four times in an unfamiliar fashion.

Tanzania’s captain Asha Saada Rachid scored a hat-trick in the 17th, 45th and 52nd minutes while Donisia Daniel Minja got her team’s second strike.

Crested Cranes head coach Farida Bulega noted with optimism that her team is still focused and looking forward to win the last match against Rwanda’.

Crested Cranes suffered their first loss but will build confidence on the six points already collected off Kenya and Ethiopia.

“My girls tried their best but it was not on our day but we are still focused. We have learnt from the errors we have made today. We are here to compete with every team that comes our way. We shall do our best in the last game against Rwanda. We shall fight for glory,” said Bulega

The tournament is played on a round robin basis. The top placed Nation with highest number of points collected will be crowned Champions.

The Crested Cranes defeated Kenya (1-0) and Ethiopia (2-1) in their opening two games.
