Two Nabbed Circulating counterfeit US Dollars

Two people in Kampala have been arrested by police as they tried to exchange fake US Dollars worth $40,221 (Shs146million).

Ssemambo Nickson and Kigongo Steven were nabbed at a forex bureau located at King Fahad Building in Kampala as they tried to exchange the fake dollars.

According to the Kampala Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the Forex bureau attendant, after identifying that the currency notes were counterfeit, he tipped off the area police and the suspects were apprehended red-handed.

The suspects are currently held at Central Police Station Kampala as investigations continue.

“Forex bureaus, small businesses and dealers of mobile money banking are the most targeted. We urge these business groups, the entire community in general, to be vigilant, verify the authenticity of currency notes before they agree to any transaction and always be quick to inform police to foil such crimes,” Owoyesigyire said.

According to Ugandan Laws, possession of counterfeit notes or circulation of forged currency is liable to a term of of 3 years and above imprisonment
