The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB) has intensified its enforcement operations in Western Uganda, confiscating more than 28 illegal gaming machines in a targeted crackdown across the districts of Sheema, Rubirizi and Kabale.
According to the regulator, the seized machines were recovered from the areas of Kishabya in Sheema District, Katerera in Rubirizi District and Kabale Municipality during coordinated compliance operations aimed at eliminating unlawful gaming activities.
The enforcement action forms part of LGRB’s ongoing nationwide campaign to curb illegal gambling, protect vulnerable communities and restore integrity within Uganda’s regulated gaming sector.
Community Role in Enforcement
LGRB credited local residents for providing intelligence that enabled inspectors to identify and shut down the illegal operations.
“We thank the community members for their vigilance and collaboration,” the regulator said, noting that public reporting remains a critical pillar in detecting unlicensed gaming operators, suppliers and manufacturers.
Authorities say illegal gaming dens often operate without safeguards, exposing minors and low-income earners to exploitation and financial loss while depriving government of lawful gaming revenue.
Public Urged to Report Illegal Operators
The board has encouraged the public to remain alert and report any suspected illegal gaming activities through its toll-free helpline 0800285800.
“Your voice strengthens regulation,” LGRB emphasized, adding that citizen participation is essential in sustaining compliance and ensuring gaming activities operate within the law.
The Western Uganda seizures follow a series of recent enforcement sweeps across different regions, as the regulator scales up inspections, seizures and closures targeting unlicensed machines and premises.
Officials say the intensified operations will continue nationwide as part of broader efforts to promote responsible gaming and protect communities from the harms associated with illegal gambling.
