The Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration has been honored with the Cross-Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference and Expo Awards held on February 17, 2026, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
The award was presented during a ceremony presided over by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, who served as the chief guest at the event.
Global Tourism Resilience Day is an international platform that recognizes institutions and stakeholders demonstrating exceptional leadership in tourism resilience, conservation, sustainable development, crisis preparedness, safety, and recovery initiatives.
Kenya made history as the first African country to host the global event, underlining the continent’s growing role in shaping sustainable tourism policy and practice.
The Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration was recognized for its joint efforts in marine conservation, shared crisis response mechanisms, and cooperative coastal destination management.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa, has focused on strengthening cross-border tourism ties while promoting environmental sustainability along the Indian Ocean coastline.
Launched in 2022, the collaboration aims to boost tourism flows between Uganda and Kenya by enhancing the visibility of Uganda’s tourism products within Kenya’s coastal market. Since its inception, the number of Kenyan visitors traveling to Uganda has increased, attributed in part to coordinated marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships under the initiative.
Tourism stakeholders say the award affirms Uganda’s expanding role in regional tourism development and highlights the importance of cross-border partnerships in building resilient tourism systems.
By fostering cooperation between destinations, the initiative supports not only bilateral tourism growth but also strengthens the broader East African tourism ecosystem.
Officials from the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa described the recognition as a milestone achievement that reinforces their commitment to sustainable tourism promotion and regional integration.
The accolade is expected to further energize collaborative efforts aimed at positioning East Africa as a unified and resilient tourism destination in the face of global challenges.
