Police in Kampala are investigating a case of aggravated robbery and murder by strangulation following the killing of a young businesswoman in Kyanja, a suburb of the city.
The incident occurred on the night of 3rd February 2026 in Kwaata Zone, Kyanja Ward, Kawempe Division, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police.
The deceased has been identified as Namulinde Diana, also known as Diana Skys, a 24-year-old entrepreneur and social media content creator, who was residing alone in an apartment in the area. Her body was discovered the following day, 4th February, after friends grew concerned when they failed to reach her and went to check on her welfare. Upon arrival, they reportedly found the apartment door open and alerted authorities.
Confirming the incident, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said preliminary investigations indicate that the crime involved both robbery and homicide.
“Earlier in the day, a security guard attached to the premises was arrested after being found in possession of items suspected to have been stolen,” Owoyesigyire said. “Some of the recovered items were later positively identified as property belonging to the deceased.”
Following the discovery, a joint team of homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) visited the location to process the scene. Police documented physical evidence, recovered several exhibits believed to be crucial to the investigation, and recorded statements from individuals deemed relevant to the case.
Owoyesigyire further revealed that three suspects have so far been identified, with two currently in custody assisting police with ongoing inquiries. Efforts are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder, including the motive and the extent of involvement of each suspect.
The body of Namulinde Diana was conveyed to KCCA Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and support forensic findings.
The killing has sparked renewed public concern over urban security, particularly in residential areas where tenants live alone. Police have repeatedly urged property owners and residents to strengthen internal security measures, conduct proper vetting of private guards, and promptly report suspicious activity.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and police have appealed to anyone with information that may aid the case to cooperate with authorities.
