The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, conducted an inspection tour of the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium, ahead of its official commissioning by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The 18-month project was completed five months ahead of schedule, showcasing modern sports infrastructure and world-class facilities. Gen. Kainerugaba was guided through the stadium by Project Manager Mr. Murat Altun, who highlighted key features including VIP amenities, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, modern changing rooms, an external training pitch, and a 2,000-seat arena with a basketball court.
The inspection was attended by prominent project and government officials, including SUUMA Chairman Mr. Selim Bora, CEO Mr. Envar Sayan, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, the Chairman of the National Council of Sports, and the Mayor of Hoima City.
During the tour, Gen. Kainerugaba stressed the importance of maintaining the stadium’s high standards and called on Hon. Ogwang and the National Council of Sports to ensure future projects uphold similar world-class quality.
The 20,000-seat multi-purpose stadium is a key venue for Uganda’s role as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania, and is one of three stadiums in the country designated to host tournament matches.
Gen. Kainerugaba reiterated his commitment to sports development, noting that providing and maintaining top-tier facilities is vital for nurturing Ugandan talent and achieving international sporting success.
The Hoima City Stadium represents a strategic government investment aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure, stimulating regional development in the Hoima economic hub, and ensuring Uganda meets its commitments as an AFCON 2027 host.
