The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced temporary traffic delays at Katonga Bridge along the Kampala–Masaka Highway, as construction works enter a critical phase involving the transportation and installation of precast girders.
According to the Ministry, the installation exercise will be carried out by the project contractor, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), from Tuesday, 11th November to Friday, 21st November 2025, during two scheduled work periods: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Ministry explained that the installation of precast girders—large and heavy concrete beams essential to the bridge’s structure—poses temporary safety risks to motorists due to the slow movement of equipment and the use of cranes lifting beams across the road carriageway.
“Motorists are therefore advised to follow traffic guidance and exercise patience during these operations,” the Ministry noted in a statement, adding that the safety of all road users remains a top priority.
The works at Katonga Bridge are part of ongoing efforts to restore and strengthen a key transport corridor between Kampala and southwestern Uganda, which was severely affected by flooding in recent years.
The Ministry apologized for any inconvenience caused and appreciated the public’s cooperation as the project moves closer to completion.
