Joseph Mugenyi has been officially nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Burahya County, following his victory in the party primaries, where he garnered 23,513 votes, representing 50.6% of the total ballots cast.
Speaking during a press conference at Fort Fun City shortly after his nomination, Mugenyi expressed gratitude to NRM supporters and pledged to dedicate his campaign to youth empowerment, inclusive growth, and infrastructure development within the constituency.
“This nomination is a call to serve,” Mugenyi said. “Our priority is to create opportunities for young people to thrive and ensure that development reaches every household in Burahya. Together, we can build a stronger, self-reliant community.”
Mugenyi’s closest challenger, Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole District LCV Chairperson, secured 14,916 votes in the primaries and has since declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.
The nomination ceremony drew a large turnout of NRM supporters, local leaders, and media representatives, officially signaling the start of Mugenyi’s campaign under the ruling party’s banner.
Political analysts in Kabarole observe that Mugenyi’s decisive win in the primaries has strengthened his position within NRM’s structures, giving him a significant head start ahead of the general elections. His campaign is expected to hinge on addressing key community concerns, including youth unemployment, agricultural modernization, and improved access to social services.
Meanwhile, Mwanguhya Charles Mpagi, who contested in previous elections, has opted not to return to the race this time.
As the 2026 election season intensifies, Mugenyi’s nomination has injected fresh energy into Burahya’s political landscape, with many residents viewing him as a youthful and development-oriented candidate capable of steering the constituency toward a more prosperous future.
