Children at Angel Children’s Centre for Children with Special Needs in Wakiso received a digital boost over the weekend, thanks to a joint initiative by Ecobank Uganda and Simplifi Networks during this year’s Ecobank Day celebrations.
The annual event, held on Saturday, October 11, centred on the theme “Enabling Inclusive Learning for All.” It brought together volunteers, educators, and partners who share a common goal: creating equal learning opportunities for children, regardless of ability.
As part of the initiative, Simplifi Networks, a technology company focused on expanding digital access across Africa, partnered with Ecobank Uganda to donate 20 rugged learning tablets to the centre. The devices are equipped to support children living with conditions such as Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy.
Speaking during the handover, Resty Nabatte, Project Manager at Simplifi Networks, said technology has become one of the most powerful tools in bridging learning gaps.
“We firmly believe that technology plays a vital role in empowering children with special needs. The tablets will open doors to new learning opportunities, helping these incredible children learn, communicate, and grow with confidence,” Nabatte noted.
More than just digital gadgets, the tablets function as assistive learning tools when paired with specialised software. They can help non-verbal children communicate through text-to-speech and speech-to-text applications, support personalised learning, and encourage greater independence through interactive educational apps.
According to educators at the centre, such tools are crucial in improving engagement for children who require tailored learning approaches.
“Simplifi believes technology can level the playing field and ensure that every child’s potential is never limited by circumstance or disability,” Nabatte added.
A Shared Commitment to Inclusion
The initiative reflects a growing recognition among corporate partners of the need to invest in inclusive education. For Ecobank, Ecobank Day is an opportunity for staff and partners to make tangible contributions to community causes.
At Angel Children’s Centre, which currently supports over 35 resident learners, the donation represents more than just a one-day event; it’s a step toward sustained inclusion and empowerment.
