The Electoral Commission has confirmed the polling dates for the election of Special Interest Group (SIG) Committees at the parish and ward level, as part of the ongoing electoral process leading to the 2025/2026 General Elections.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Julius Mucunguzi, the Electoral Commission’s spokesperson, the elections will be conducted as follows:
- Older Persons Committees: Wednesday, 2nd July 2025
- Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Committees: Friday, 4th July 2025
- Youth Committees: Monday, 7th July 2025
These elections follow the successful conclusion of nomination exercises held from June 26 to June 27, 2025, and are part of the Commission’s broader electoral roadmap that spans from village to national level.
The Special Interest Group (SIG) elections are designed to ensure inclusive representation of key demographics in Uganda’s governance structures.
They include Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, and Youth, whose respective committees are elected through a series of tiered elections beginning at the village level.
In accordance with the Electoral Commission’s official programme, village-level elections were held earlier in June 2025, with the elected members forming electoral colleges that will now vote for candidates at the parish level.
The next phases of the exercise will include the compilation of SIG registers at sub-county level (scheduled for July 8, 2025), followed by elections at sub-county, municipal, district, and national levels.
Mr. Mucunguzi urged all eligible electoral college members to participate actively and responsibly in the upcoming elections. He also called upon election officials and stakeholders to adhere to the electoral guidelines to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process.
The Electoral Commission continues to encourage the public to follow updates through its official website www.ec.or.ug and other verified communication channels.
The SIG electoral process is a key pillar in promoting inclusive governance and representation, as Uganda prepares for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
