The National Unity Platform (NUP) has extended the deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest for members seeking to contest in the 2026 general elections.
According to the party’s Election Management Committee (EMC), the new deadline has been set for Friday, July 25, 2025, allowing more time for aspiring candidates to meet the application requirements.
The EMC said the extension follows an overwhelming number of applications from across the country and multiple requests from individuals who faced delays, particularly in verifying academic documents.
“While the numbers have been overwhelming, we have received requests from many people who could not beat the deadline for various reasons, including the long periods required to verify academic documents,” said Harriet Chemutai Harriet, Chairperson of the EMC.
The party announced that submission of applications will continue at all designated points from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (on working days).
NUP also cautioned that supporters accompanying applicants to the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule should not exceed ten people, to avoid congestion as other activities will be ongoing at the premises.
This extension comes amid increased political mobilisation ahead of the 2026 elections, with NUP positioning itself to retain and expand its political influence following its strong performance in 2021.
