Leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) from Uganda’s northern region have gathered in Gulu City for a strategic retreat aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation and bolstering efforts toward electoral justice.
The retreat, attended by party officials from the Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja sub-regions, is expected to feature an address by NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine. He is anticipated to rally party leaders around the themes of vote protection, political resilience, and mobilization amid what the party describes as ongoing persecution by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
“The focus is on equipping our structures to resist intimidation and to protect the will of the people,” one of the organisers said. “We are determined to liberate Uganda from the NRM regime, which continues to misuse state coercive institutions to suppress dissent.”
The retreat comes at a time of heightened political tension in Uganda, with opposition parties frequently accusing the government of using security agencies to target opposition supporters and block civic freedoms.
The meeting was covered by Emmy Daniel Ojara and shared via NUP’s official social media platforms.
