
Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has engaged in high-level bilateral meetings with top Muslim leaders from Russia, during the opening of the International Halal Trade Kazan Market a major event of the 16th Russia–Islamic World International Economic Forum.
Mubaje met His Excellency Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Mr. Alim Sizhazhev, Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
The meetings focused on strengthening interfaith dialogue, enhancing cooperation in Islamic finance, and advancing Uganda’s participation in the global halal trade industry.
He was accompanied by Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.
Held at Nagoi Hotel in Kazan City, the forum brought together leaders and delegates from more than 50 Islamic countries and regions.
Key topics under discussion included Islamic finance, manufacturing, science and technology, investment opportunities, halal industry development, logistics, culture, tourism, and sports.
The Ugandan delegation is also participating in side events such as the Modest Fashion Day Festival and the Festival of Cuisines of Islamic Countries. These events are designed to showcase Islamic culture and promote business-to-business engagements among participating nations.
According to organizers, the forum includes Russia’s largest investment and infrastructure exhibition, which provides an opportunity for countries like Uganda to explore joint development projects in trade, technology, and faith-based enterprises.
Mufti Mubaje is also scheduled to travel to Moscow where he will deliver a keynote address on “The Cultural Code of a Modern Muslim” at the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia Centre, a leading institution in interfaith and cultural dialogue.
