Vice President Jessica Alupo has thrown her support behind a new chili farming initiative aimed at transforming the economic fortunes of Uganda’s Busoga sub-region.
Launched in Kamuli District and officiated by First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, the project targets improved household incomes and export-driven agriculture.
Led by the Busoga Consortium in partnership with the Office of the Vice President and the Chinese Embassy, the initiative aims to equip farmers with technical training and connect them to global markets.
“This project is not just about agriculture—it’s about empowerment, sustainability, and prosperity,” Kadaga said while delivering Alupo’s remarks. The Vice President praised the Consortium’s grassroots-driven efforts, calling it a model for regional development.
The initiative is part of a broader push to reposition Busoga as a key player in Uganda’s agricultural export strategy, with chili identified as a high-value crop for international markets.
