Embattled Nyendo-Mukungwe MP and former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has launched an attack on National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, accusing him of dishonesty, divisiveness, and political manipulation, as the split between the two continues to widen.
In a series of pointed remarks, Mpuuga dismissed recent reconciliation calls as hollow, demanding that “the liar must come to the table of truth” before any mending of ties can happen.
“We now know the liar. Go and ask the liar if he is ready to reconcile with himself and his lies,” Mpuuga said in a strongly worded statement, questioning Kyagulanyi’s capacity for leadership.
Mpuuga claimed he sympathizes with NUP supporters, particularly the “rank and file in the opposition,” whom he described as victims of political opportunism.
“That is what you have for a leader he will sacrifice you so that he can extend his shelf life in politics,” Mpuuga remarked, suggesting Kyagulanyi is more interested in self-preservation than collective progress.
He also questioned whether the NUP leader “understands the duty of a leader,” noting, “Those questions still linger.”
Despite pressure from the party to apologize or resign, Mpuuga stood his ground: “If you ask me to go and apologize… about what? I think we need to be serious.”
His comments are the latest in an escalating war of words that has exposed growing fractures within NUP, raising concerns about the party’s stability ahead of the 2026 general elections.
