PHOTOS!!! Voter Register Display Underway Across Uganda Ahead Of 2025–2026 General Elections

1 Mins read

The Electoral Commission (EC) commenced the nationwide display of the National Voters Register, a crucial phase in the run-up to Uganda’s 2025–2026 General Elections. The exercise, which began on April 25th, will continue until May 15th, 2025, across all polling stations in the country.

In line with Section 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), this 21-day period allows citizens to verify the accuracy of their voter information and ensure their eligibility to vote.

Polling stations are open daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, including weekends. Voters are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to confirm their personal details, including names and photographs, on the Voters Register.

According to the EC, the primary objectives of the display are to:

  • Allow voters to verify their registration details;
  • Ensure photographs are correctly matched to names;
  • Raise objections regarding wrongful inclusions or omissions;
  • Report ineligible individuals, such as deceased persons, underage registrants, non-residents, and duplicate entries.

The Electoral Commission has emphasized that no new voter registrations or transfers will be processed during the display period.

Those who applied to register but do not find their names on the Register can lodge their case for consideration with the Display Officer at their polling station.

Following the conclusion of the display, a supplementary list of individuals recommended for deletion will be exhibited from May 16th to May 26th, 2025 at Parish and Ward Headquarters. This allows affected individuals to appeal through the Parish/Ward Tribunal, a local body comprised of elders and community representatives appointed by the area Magistrate.

“This is not just a formality—it’s a fundamental step in safeguarding the integrity of our elections,” said a spokesperson from the Electoral Commission. “We urge every eligible Ugandan to participate and verify their voter information.”

The Electoral Commission has assured the public that the exercise is being conducted with full transparency and impartiality, with political party agents and members of the public permitted to observe.

Citizens with complaints related to the voter display exercise are advised to submit them to the Returning Officer of their Electoral District, who will address them in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Commission Act.
