Among’s Supporters Launch Grassroots Campaign in Ankole for NRM CEC Seat

Supporters of Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among have launched a grassroots campaign in the Ankole subregion to mobilize support for her bid as the NRM’s national female vice chairperson on the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Operating under the group Anita Among Ankole Chapter, the team plans to visit each district in the region, engaging NRM delegates ahead of the party’s internal elections.

Group members say Among’s leadership in passing the Anti-Homosexuality Act is a key reason they back her. They argue her stance reflects a strong commitment to preserving Ugandan culture.

“Speaker Among is deeply rooted in our traditions,” said group member Ambrose Turyamureba. “Her role in pushing the Anti-Gay Bill proves her dedication. We will support her in all weather.”

Group chairman Rodgers Arinaitwe told journalists in Mbarara that the campaign also supports President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership, pledging to secure votes for both Museveni and Among.

Among is contesting against First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga for the influential CEC position. Her supporters claim she is better suited for the role due to her efforts to unite Parliament and champion traditional values.

“Homosexuality was destroying our children,” said group member Adam Abaho. “By passing the bill into law, she has helped protect future generations.”

The group also responded to controversy surrounding a recent Ush 100 million cash allocation to MPs. They defended Among, saying she was not involved in the deal and had no prior knowledge.

As the NRM CEC elections draw closer, Among’s campaigners plan to cover all districts in Ankole by August.

“Our mission is to speak to every NRM delegate,” said campaign member Javira Muhangi. “We want their vote for Speaker Among.”
