State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of works at the Kyambogo University training pitch, one of the key facilities being prepared for upcoming continental football events—CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027.
In a visit early Wednesday morning, Hon. Ogwang inspected the newly seeded surface and praised the quality of the turf, just 12 days after seeding.
“I visited Kyambogo University training pitch this morning to check on its progress ahead of CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027. It’s 12 days since it was seeded and I must say the surface is impressively green and beautiful,” he posted on social media platform X.
The pitch is part of a nationwide effort to upgrade sports infrastructure in Uganda, as the country prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Kyambogo is among the training venues designated for the tournament, as well as for CHAN (African Nations Championship), which Uganda is also preparing to host.
Hon. Ogwang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the pitch is fully ready for use by June 2025, aligning with CAF’s requirements and timelines.
The visit underscores the government’s close monitoring of ongoing sports facility developments, with a focus on quality and timely delivery.
