Electoral Commission Releases Detailed Program for Kawempe North By-Elections

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially unveiled the program for the upcoming parliamentary and local government by-elections in Kawempe Division North Constituency and Kazo-Angola Ward, Kawempe Division.

The by-election aims to fill the vacant seat for Member of Parliament in Kawempe Division North and the City Division Councillor for Kazo-Angola A.

The electoral process will unfold over several weeks, beginning with stakeholder engagements and concluding with the polling day scheduled for March 13, 2025.

Key Activities in the Program

  1. Stakeholders’ Meeting and Voters’ Register Updates
    The process kicks off with a meeting and press briefing on January 27, followed by updates to the National Voters’ Register from January 27 to 31.
  2. Cut-Off and Display of Voters’ Register
    January 31 marks the deadline for voter registration and transfer requests. Displays of the voters’ register at polling stations are set to take place from February 10 to 19.
  3. Nomination of Candidates
    Candidate nominations will be conducted on February 26 and 27, followed by a period for inspection of nomination papers and complaints until March 5.
  4. Campaign Period
    Campaigns will officially run from February 28 to March 11, allowing candidates to reach out to voters and outline their plans.
  5. Polling Day
    The by-election will culminate on March 13, 2025, when voters will head to the polls to elect their representatives.

The Electoral Commission has urged all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and the public, to actively participate in the outlined activities to ensure a transparent and credible election process.
