President Museveni has committed to tarmacking the 97-kilometer Lusalira-Nkonge-Ssekabule road, a project aimed at improving the transport network in Mubende District.
Speaking at the National Teachers’ College in Mubende on Sunday, Museveni assured locals and dignitaries that the government remains committed to addressing infrastructural challenges in the area.
“We are now going to tarmac the road from Lusalira-Nkonge-Ssekabule, where Kabamba Barracks is situated,” he said, referencing the historic significance of the road in the 1981 war. Kabamba Barracks is known as the site of the first bullet fired in the struggle that brought the National Resistance Army (NRA) to power.
The President also acknowledged the district’s progress over the years, contrasting the current road network with the state of infrastructure during the war era. “Mubende had only one road at that time. But now, when you pass through, you can see how we have transformed the road network,” he added.
In addition to the Lusalira-Nkonge-Ssekabule road, Museveni pledged to prioritize the Myanzi-Kassanda-Bukuya road, emphasizing its importance in enabling the transportation of goods and boosting economic activities in the region.
Residents welcomed the announcements, expressing hope that the long-standing infrastructure issues would soon be addressed. “We are really happy to hear the President himself pledge to work on the Lusalira-Nkonge-Ssekabule road because it has been a thorn in our hearts,” said a local resident.
This comes after earlier calls from Mubende residents for the government to leave a lasting legacy in the district, which hosted Uganda’s first-ever national ceremony.
The government has yet to announce the timeline or budget for the road projects. However, the pledges mark a step forward in addressing the region’s infrastructural needs.
