Uganda, Pakistan Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Inaugural Political Consultations

Uganda and Pakistan have taken a significant step toward enhancing their diplomatic relationship by holding the inaugural session of Political Consultations in Kampala.

This milestone, which concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to solidify collaboration in political, economic, scientific, cultural, and technical spheres.

The consultations, conducted in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, were led by Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, Uganda’s Chief of Protocol and Acting Permanent Secretary, and H.E. Mr. Hamid Asghar Khan, Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary.

In preparation for the talks, the Pakistani delegation paid courtesy visits to Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar.

The ministers highlighted opportunities for partnership in agro-processing, mineral development, and ICT investment, expressing optimism about the growing ties between the two nations.

“This dialogue provides a framework to trigger a more vibrant relationship and unlock potential collaborations that benefit our countries,” said Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakhar.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

The session marked a shared commitment to advancing bilateral relations and addressing mutual interests. Delegations explored opportunities for collaboration on key global issues, reaffirming their dedication to promoting peace, security, and economic growth in their regions.

Ambassador Ssentongo emphasized the importance of translating aspirations into actionable initiatives: “These discussions set the stage for greater collaboration between both governments and our people.”

Key areas discussed included:

  • Enhancing trade and commercial ties.
  • Promoting cultural exchanges.
  • Strengthening cooperation on international platforms.

Looking Ahead

Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary, H.E. Mr. Hamid Asghar Khan, expressed gratitude for Uganda’s hospitality and underscored the importance of sustained dialogue:

“This session represents a foundation for a robust and meaningful partnership. We look forward to building on this momentum.”

As part of their commitment to ongoing dialogue, Uganda and Pakistan agreed to convene the second round of consultations in Islamabad on dates yet to be determined.

The successful conclusion of this inaugural session signals a new chapter in Uganda-Pakistan relations, rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision for development and global cooperation.
