The program for the funeral of Dr. Martin Aliker, who passed away on Monday, has been announced, with the government allocating Shs100m for arrangements.

As per the schedule released by the government spokesperson’s office, Dr. Aliker will be laid to rest at Aworanga in Gulu City on Sunday. President Museveni has granted him an official funeral, which entails parliamentary recognition through a motion by the prime minister.

During the ceremony, the national anthem will be played, and Dr. Aliker’s coffin will be draped with the national flag. Mourners will have the opportunity to sign a condolence book placed at designated locations, including Uganda’s diplomatic missions abroad.

An official government representative will be present at the funeral. Additionally, instead of wreaths, mourners are encouraged to contribute to the Rocco Paco-Dero Kwan Education Initiative, supporting education for needy children in Acholi, through specified bank details or mobile money.

In a solemn declaration, the Government of Uganda expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Dr. Martin Jerome Aliker, a towering figure in Ugandan history. Dr. Aliker, a distinguished Dental Practitioner, Politician, and Businessman, breathed his last at Nakasero Hospital on April 15th, 2024.

“He was a beacon of wisdom, leadership, and inspiration,” remarked a government official, reflecting on Dr. Aliker’s profound influence on Ugandan society.

Dr. Aliker’s journey from humble beginnings in Gulu District to international recognition as a scholar and statesman is a testament to his remarkable life. “He was a true son of Uganda, whose legacy will endure for generations,” noted a colleague.

“The loss of Dr. Aliker leaves a void that will be deeply felt across the nation,” expressed a member of the organizing committee tasked with overseeing the funeral arrangements.

The funeral proceedings will commence with prayers and a vigil at Dr. Aliker’s residence on Thursday, April 18th, followed by a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero on Friday, April 19th. The final rites will take place in Gulu District on Saturday, April 20th, culminating in the burial at Awaranga on Sunday, April 21st.

In lieu of floral tributes, mourners are encouraged to contribute to the Rocco Paco-Dero Kwan Education Initiative, supporting education for needy children in Acholi.

Security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all mourners, with the Uganda Police Force overseeing the official ceremonies, including a gun salute during the burial.

As Uganda bids farewell to a cherished son, Dr. Martin Jerome Aliker’s legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire future generations.

“We mourn his passing but celebrate his enduring legacy,” concluded the Government Spokesperson, echoing the sentiments of a nation in mourning.
