The Honorable John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, held a productive meeting with Mr. Christoph Schmitt, Policy Advisor representing the Federal State of Saxony, Germany on February 14 2024.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

The discussions centred on enhancing cooperation between the Federal State of Saxony and Uganda, particularly in areas related to women empowerment, climate change mitigation, and sanitation initiatives.

Minister Mulimba and Mr. Schmitt acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing these pressing issues to benefit the Ugandan people.

Minister Mulimba expressed Uganda’s appreciation for the longstanding partnership with the Federal State of Saxony and highlighted the significant contributions made by Saxony in supporting various development projects in Uganda.

He emphasized the importance of leveraging such partnerships to advance initiatives aimed at empowering women, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and improving sanitation practices across Uganda.

Mr Schmitt reaffirmed Saxony’s commitment to deepening its engagement with Uganda and highlighted the state’s expertise and resources in women empowerment, climate change adaptation, and sanitation infrastructure development.

He underscored Saxony’s willingness to share best practices and collaborate with Ugandan counterparts, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to address these critical challenges.

The meeting also explored potential avenues for partnership between Saxony and Ugandan NGOs specializing in women empowerment, climate change resilience, and sanitation projects.

Both parties recognized the pivotal role of NGOs in implementing grassroots initiatives and welcomed the opportunity to facilitate exchange programs and capacity-building efforts to strengthen their impact.

Minister Mulimba and Mr. Schmitt concluded the meeting with a commitment to furthering cooperation between Uganda and Saxony in the identified priority areas.

They agreed to establish a framework for collaboration that would promote knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and joint initiatives to address the challenges of women empowerment, climate change, and sanitation in Uganda
