CMI, ISO Hunting For Thieves Who Stole Gold Worth Shs2.5billion

1 Mins read

Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Internal Security Organization (ISO) have joined police Flying Squad Unit (FSU) to hunt for robbers of gold valued at 2.5 Billion Shillings.

The thugs travelling in a Toyota Hiace waylaid a Toyota Wish UBE 139G loaded with 8 gold packets belonging to Bullion Refinery (U) Ltd based in Arua City three days ago.

The Wish was waylaid at Nseke trading centre, Ngogolo parish, Butuuntula sub country, at around midnight.

Victims of the robbery rushed to Savannah regional police headquarters in Luweero and opened a case.

Luweero police quickly alerted FSU which has since sought the intervention of CMI and ISO to track the thugs’ movement.

Security agencies in a joint statement through Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson said the military and police agencies have since joined hands to ensure the robbers are arrested so that stolen gold is recovered.

According to the victims’ statement, the armed robbers also took their mobile phones and 90,000 shillings.

“We were intercepted at Nseke trading centre by armed thugs moving in a Toyota Hiace and they were five in number. It looks like they had someone telling them about our movement and waited for us at a spot where we had very little to do,” an employee of the company said.

Enanga said the employees were coming to Kampala when they were blocked by the robbers in a Toyota Hiace.

“The employees were handcuffed, blindfolded with head masks, and driven up to Kungu village in Wobulenzi town council, and abandoned there with their motor vehicle,” Enanga said.

Some of the robbers escaped the scene with the loot on the motorcycle. Police said that robbers took advantage of the night movement of the Bullion Refinery (U) Ltd.

Security based on the previous incidents where gold was stolen in Luweero with the connivance of the employees, they also suspect an insider being involved.
