1 Mins read

Police in Luwero District have arrested a woman for allegedly killing her co-wife’s one-month and three weeks old daughter.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 11:00 am at Kabembe village in Makulubita Sub-County.

The deceased has been identified as Moreen Nakirijja, who was the daughter of Betty Nakiyimba.

The victim is said to have been strangled by Gift Namyalo who is now locked up.

Both Namyalo and Nakiyimba Betty are (co-)wives of one Brian Lule.

It is alleged that Namyalo Gift visited her mother-in-law and while there, she saw her co-wife going to fetch water and she rushed into the house of her co-wife Nakiyimba Betty where she found the baby and strangled her to death.

She closed the door and reportedly started running away but she was seen by one Ibra, uncle to the deceased who pursued her while raising an alarm that alerted the residents to arrest the suspect. She was then taken to the Makulubita police post.

Sam Twiineamazima, the acting Savannah regional police spokesperson confirms the incident. He says that when police got the information from the chairman of Kabembe village, they responded and arrested the suspect.

Twiineamazima says they took the body to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem. He says the suspect has been slapped with murder charges.
