A retired police officer in Rukungiri district was on Thursday found dead after withdrawing 5.2 million Shillings from the bank.
Deputy Assistant Inspector of Police Emmanuel Karekaho, aged 61, was a resident of Kyeshoro cell, Nyabitete Parish, Buyanja sub-county.
It is alleged that Karekaho at around 11: 42am went to Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch and withdrew the money from his account. After, he went to Rukungiri town.
However, at 3:30 pm, his body was discovered in the farm belonging to Michael Karekaho, by the farm manager Patrick Magezi.
Magezi says that he was heading home after work when he saw a body lying in a pool of blood.
Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region said that before the deceased’s body was recovered, an unidentified vehicle, a Toyota Wish was seen parked at the scene but later drove off.
Maate said that police recovered an empty wallet and a withdrawal slip from Centenary Bank from the deceased’s pockets. He adds that the deceased’s body was been taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III for Postmortem as investigations into the matter continue.
The case is registered at Kebisoni police station under file number SD REF 10/06/07/2023.
