Lorry Overturns In Atiak, 36 South Sudan Nationals Injured

A total of 36 South Sudan nationals are nursing severe injuries sustained from an accident that occurred in Amuru last evening.

The victims sustained critical injuries when the Tipper Lorry vehicle registration number UAV 919H, in which they were travelling overturned in Atiak Town Council along the Adjumani-Attiak road.

They were travelling from Nyumanzi Refugee Settlement in Adjumani district where they attended New Year prayers to Nimule in South Sudan.  

13 of them were rushed to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor in Gulu for treatment while 23 are admitted at Atiak Health Centre IV in Amuru district.  

Kenneth Okot, the Atiak Town Council Chairperson told URN on Tuesday that the 13 survivors who were rushed to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor needed specialized medical attention, while the 23 at Attiak Health Centre IV were in stable condition by Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle is reported to be on the run.

Angello Ochieng, the In-charge of Atiak Health Centre IV said on Tuesday morning that three of those receiving treatment at the facility were deteriorating and arrangements were being made to have them transferred to St Mary`s Hospital, Lacor.
