The Magistrates Court in Mengo has granted bail to four National Unity Platform-NUP supporters who have been in prison for almost two weeks. Among the four is Kavuma Jamushid, a bodyguard to NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

They were arrested on November 5 and their whereabouts were unknown until 32 days when they were taken to Old Kampala Police from where they were taken to Mengo Magistrates court and charged with malicious damage to property.

On Wednesday, the court allowed them a cash bail of 200,000 Shillings and a 2 million Shillings non- cash bail for each of the sureties.

Mengo Grade I magistrate, Adams Byaruhanga ordered the four to appear again in court on January 17, 2023.

Speaking after the court session, David Lewis Rubongoya decried the continued arrest of their supporters across the country.

He said every day they receive reports of new arrests while their efforts to engage the Uganda Human Rights Commission is yet to bear any fruits.
