Man Knocked Dead By Police Patrol Vehicle

1 Mins read

A patrol vehicle registration number UP 7690 from Moroto police station has knocked dead an elderly man along the Namutumba-Mbale road in Iganga district.

80-year-old, Rajab Kiyuba met his death in Bukona village in Nakalama sub-county on Wednesday evening while riding a motorcycle registration number UDH 684K.

According to preliminary information gathered by our reporter, Kiyuba bumped into the speeding police patrol destined for Moroto when he emerged from a crossroad.

He died on the spot and his lifeless body was taken to Iganga general hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Eyewitnesses say that both Kiyuba and the police vehicle driver were running at a high speed making it hard for either to stop in case of an emergency.

Steven Mulawa, one of the residents, says that the patrol driver attempted to swerve off the lane but there was a speeding trailer coming from the opposite direction, which frustrated his efforts to save Kiyuba.

Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, says that a team from the traffic police visited the accident scene, and extracted statements from both the police driver and eyewitnesses.

Nandawula says that preliminary findings show that Kiyuba crossed the road without conducting due diligence and knocked the left side of the patrol, fell off his motorcycle, hit his head on the tarmac, and died instantly.
