Man Strangles Wife to Death in Zombo

Police in Zombo district is holding a man accused of killing his wife over the weekend. The suspect is Alfred Oroma, a resident of Awora village Otheko parish in Paidha sub-county.

He reportedly killed his wife Nola Ongiera on Sunday morning following a misunderstanding. It is alleged that Ongiera returned on Sunday morning while drunk and picked up a quarrel with his wife.

Preliminary reports show that the suspect hit Ongiera on the head with a blunt object and strangled her to death.

Robinson Okethi, the Otheko parish councilor reveals that the suspect was rescued by elders after the locals descended on him shortly after murdering his wife.

He says that the suspect was later handed over to police by the elders.

The Zombo District Police Commander, Nelson Nahabwe told URN that the suspect is in their custody noting that he will be produced before the court once his file is ready.

According to some local Leaders, the couple had a string of domestic misunderstandings. Boni Oringi, the peer facilitator for Colaine Aid, a community-based organization championing the fight against domestic violence in Zombo district, says that cases of domestic violence have become rampant as the festive season nears.

He has challenged families to dialogue instead of resorting to physical violence.
