The Police in Kassanda District has intercepted a Bundibugyo-bound bus for allegedly violating regulations issued to curb the spread of the Ebola virus disease.

The bus attached to Link Bus Services Limited was impounded on Monday afternoon after it was cited loading passengers from prohibited areas under lockdown.

In a Saturday televised address, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced the 21-day lockdown in which the government restricted movements in and out with an aim to curb the spread of Ebola Virus Disease in Mubende and Kassanda districts.

Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Rachael Kawala confirmed that the Police impounded the bus from Kigalama Stage in Myanzi Sub County, Kassanda District.

According to Kawala, the Link bus from Bundibugyo was carrying 58 passengers but upon reaching Kigalama Stage, it stopped and picked 2 people.

She said that the 2 people were both bus inspectors of Link Bus and Hopper Bus where the latter was being given a lift to Mityana.

Kawala said that three people have been arrested, and detained and that statements have been recorded from witnesses.

She said that the force has preferred a charge of negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease of Ebola against the 3 people as inquiries are still ongoing.

The impounding of the bus is in line with the presidential directive being implemented by authorities in Kassanda to enforce the restrictions.

President Museveni directed that public transport, private transport and Boda-bodas in Mubende and Kassanda districts are not permitted to move.

He also directed that only Cargo vehicles and those supporting the response to the Ebola outbreak, authorized government vehicles and security vehicles are permitted to move but shall not take people in or out of the two districts.

Museveni also ordered that transit vehicles (public and private) crossing the two districts are permitted to move but with police clearance and that no stopping to pick up or drop people while cargo trucks will be allowed with only a driver and one turn-boy to deliver and carry only goods.
